The Creative Hearts Extended Day program partners seamlessly with Community Nursery School, in order to create a positive, encouraging experience for your child. The curriculum is thoughtfully planned from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave, mixing fun and games with creative enriching activities, developing their empathy, compassion, and self-awareness.

While providing you with an extra hour and half of childcare, Creative Hearts also acts as a great precursor for Kindergarten. In addition to a longer day, our classes cultivate confidence and personal awareness. Our staff works to ease transitions, supporting children through lunch time, social competency, and emotional strain. Thus empowering them with skills and tools to use in Kindergarten and beyond.

A day in our program looks like this:

Art Class

Our students will have 45 minutes of art time to explore a wide variety of materials, concepts and techniques & materials. Art lessons are designed to foster creativity and freedom of expression, as well as develop many skills including: confidence, focus, dedication, problem solving, and fine motor skills. We remind our kids to trust their own voice and instincts as artists. We encourage our budding artists to experiment and explore, and that you can't compare your art (or yourself) with anyone else. Because we each have our own magic to share.

Lunch

During 45 minutes of lunch and movement time, we begin by eating lunch packed from home. We practice opening containers and how to clean up, we periodically remind them to eat their biggest thing first — the thing that provides our body with the biggest amount of energy. After eating, kids are taught how to close containers tightly and clean up their space. Lunch time at Creative Hearts serves as the perfect prep for Kindergarten, helping them become more independent.

Movement Games

Each child is given space to finish lunch at their own pace, after which they transition over to music and movement games. Each day we offer different activities of movement-based play: team-building games, obstacle courses, scarf dancing, yoga, building, and imaginative play! Our movement games are always fun, silly, and non-competitive to promote team-building, gross motor skills, balance, creativity, and imagination. When we're done each day, we always work together to help clean up the space, developing our communication and teamwork skills.

FAQ's

How do I register for a class?   You can register by clicking the "Register Here" link above!

Can I pick the days my child attends class? We have expanded the registration options to offer 2, 3, and 5 day options that can enroll your child in, we are unable to offer registration on customized days . We're sorry for any inconvenience!

Can I sign up for just the base program or just the extended day option? The base program can be purchased as a standalone from 11:45 - 1:15. Extended time is an add-on to that program and can't be purchased independent from the rest of the Preschool Program.

What should my child wear? We recommend sending your child "dressed for a mess", in clothes that are ok to get glue or paint on. Additionally, please send your child in shoes they can run in.

What happens on staff development days?
During CNS's staff development days, we run on a early schedule.
The children are walked upstairs from CNS at 11am. Children will be dismissed from Creative Hearts at 12:30pm. If your child is staying for the Extended Time Add-On, dismissal will be moved to 1:15pm.

Do you offer make ups?   We only offer make ups for the classes that we have to cancel, while CNS is open. If you miss a class, or if a class gets canceled due to inclement weather, we cannot guarantee a make up. However, if there is space in the week, we'll do our best to accommodate you.

What happens during snow days? We follow CNS's schedule for all holiday and weather-related closings.

I'm gonna be late! Who should I call? Please call or text Emily at 914-620-2772

Where is all my child's art? We keep most of your child's artwork in their special "art portfolio" until the end of year, when we'll display it in our annual end of year art show! We'll announce the time and date when it gets close, but we usually hold it in early June. All artwork gets sent home at the end of the show.

My child doesn't attend Community Nursery school. Can we still join the program?   Absolutely! If space permits, you are welcome to join us on Fridays, which is our open registration day. Refund Policy
If you need to cancel your child's enrollment for any reason:

UP TO 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS:
You can receive a full refund or credit for any class in the future

AFTER 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS:
Refunds or credits are not available. We will not be able to provide refunds or credits if you decide to unenroll your child after 2 weeks before the start of class
